Privacy Policy

The short version

Mandjie is a shopping- and to-do-list app. We collect only what we need to run your account and your lists, we never sell your data, and we don't show third-party ads inside the app. Your lists are private to you and the people you choose to share them with.

Information we collect

• Account details — your username, display name, email address and, if you choose to sign in by SMS, your mobile number. Your password is stored only as a secure one-way hash; we can never see it.
• Your content — the lists, items, quantities, notes and product history you create, and who each list is shared with.
• Technical data — basic server logs (e.g. IP address, browser type, timestamps) kept for security and troubleshooting.
• Usage data — which features you use and when (for example signing in, creating a list or ticking off an item), and whether you used the website or the installed app. It never includes what your lists or items say.
• A record of messages we send you — the type of email or SMS, the address or number it went to, and whether our provider accepted it.
• Messages you send us — anything you submit through the contact form.

How we use it

• To create and run your account and sync your lists across your devices.
• To send essential emails — email confirmation, list-sharing invites and partner requests.
• To text you one-time sign-in codes, if you use your mobile number to sign in. We never use your number for marketing and never show it to other users.
• To let you share lists with the specific people you invite.
• To keep the service secure and to fix problems — including checking that sign-in codes and emails are getting through.
• To understand which features get used, so we can improve the app. This usage data stays on our own server and is never shared or sold.
• To measure sign-ups from our own marketing (see “Analytics” below).

Sharing your information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. Your lists are visible only to you and the people you explicitly share them with. We use a small number of trusted service providers purely to operate the app:

• Our hosting provider — stores the app and its database.
• Microsoft 365 — delivers our outgoing emails.
• Clickatell — delivers our sign-in code SMS (it receives only your number and the code).
• Google — measures visits and sign-ups on our website (see “Analytics”).

We may also disclose information if required by law.

Analytics & advertising

Our public website uses Google's tag (gtag.js) to measure traffic and to see how many people sign up after visiting one of our ads. This uses cookies and may share limited technical data with Google. It runs on the marketing website; the app itself is for managing your lists. You can block these cookies in your browser.

Cookies

We use an essential cookie to keep you signed in, and a few small preference cookies — which sign-in form you used last, and whether you're using the installed app — that hold no identifier. The website also sets Google analytics/advertising cookies as described above. We don't use any other tracking cookies.

Data retention & your rights

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Usage data is deleted after about a year and the record of messages we sent after six months. When you delete your account, your usage data is unlinked from you and kept only as anonymous counts. You can delete your account and its data yourself at any time from Account → Delete account in the app — see how to delete your account — or email info@mandjie.co.za and we'll remove it. Deleting your account deletes the lists you own, including for everyone they were shared with. To correct your details, email us.

Children

Mandjie is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Security

We use HTTPS everywhere, hash passwords, and restrict access to your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll change the “last updated” date above when we do.
